How Does It Work
Komboglyze/Kombiglyze XR is a combination drug that contains metformin and saxagliptin which control blood glucose levels. Metformin decreases the production of glucose from the liver, reducing intestinal absorption of glucose and improves insulin sensitivity. Sitagliptin inhibits dipeptidyl peptidase 4 (DPP-4) enzymes which increases incretin hormone levels that increase insulin synthesis and release from the pancreas while reducing glucagon secretion.

Before starting Metformin+Saxagliptin, Kombiglyze XR/Komboglyze make sure your physician is aware of any allergies or medications you currently take, and activities you perform. Metformin+Saxagliptin, Kombiglyze XR/Komboglyze have been associated with arthralgia, bullous pemphigoid, hypersensitivity reactions including Stevens-Johnson syndrome, lactic acidosis, pancreatitis, vitamin B12 deficiency, and worsening renal function. Metformin+Saxagliptin, Kombiglyze XR/Komboglyze should not be used in patients with heart failure and/or hepatic impairment.
Usual Dosing
Usual (Oral): Initial dose should be based on your current daily dose of saxagliptin and metformin.
ER: Take once daily. A maximum daily dose of saxagliptin 5mg/metformin 2000mg.
IR: Take twice daily. A maximum daily dose of saxagliptin 5mg/metformin 2000mg.
Note: Refer to the official drug monograph for dosage adjustments for concomitant therapy.
