How Does It Work
Inhibits synthesis of β(1,3)-D-glucan, an essential component of the cell wall of susceptible fungi. The highest activity is in regions of active cell growth. Mammalian cells do not require β(1,3)-D-glucan, limiting potential toxicity.

Precautions
Before starting Caspofungin, Cancidas make sure your physician is aware of any allergies or medications you currently take. Taking Caspofungin, Cancidas comes with a higher risk of experiencing hepatic effects (i.e. hepatic failure, hepatitis).
Usual Dosing
Intravenous: Initial dose of 70mg on day 1; subsequent dosing at 50 mg once daily; generally continue for at least 14 days after the last positive culture or longer if neutropenia warrants.

Intravenous: Infuse slowly over ~1 hour. Do not administer IV bolus.
Side Effects
Hypotension, peripheral edema, chills, headache, skin rash, diarrhea, nausea, hematologic effects (i.e. decrease in hematocrit, hemoglobin, white blood cells), elevated liver enzymes, phlebitis, respiratory failure, cough, infusion-related reactions, fever, and septic shock.
